Our Food Van project is in conjunction with the Father Bob Foundation. We set up every Tuesday evening in Port Melbourne close to the public housing estate to help vulnerable people with limited income from falling into the cycle of homelessness.
We currently have 80 volunteers who do all shopping and each week pack our bins with the supplies we need, make soups, have cooking sessions in the shule kitchen to prepare pasta dishes and casseroles, and ensure that we have enough food prepared each week for the clients. Others work out the rosters and oversee the project.
Each volunteer brings a salad or a prepared casserole, or some fruit or dessert. Each shift is two hours every Tuesday evening, and each volunteer is allocated four shifts a year.
This project could not function without the generous donations of funds and contributions from members of KN, and food from businesses including Continental Butchers, Solomon Butchers, and Bake My Day.
Please contact Deb Korman on 0418 559 800 if you would like to become involved in further helping these vulnerable families. We would very much appreciate your suggestions and input.
